Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Mente is a free learning platform. We collect only the data the platform genuinely needs to work - to sign you in, to save your progress, and to protect against abuse. We do not sell data and we do not use third-party advertising or tracking.

This policy explains what actually happens to your data when you use Mente. It is written for how the app really behaves, not as a generic template.

Who runs Mente

Mente is operated by its author. If you have a question about your data or want to exercise any of your rights, email dybalasamuel8@gmail.com.

We deliberately do not state a specific legal entity, registered address or governing law here until the operator formally establishes them - we would rather leave a gap than publish something untrue.

Using Mente without an account

Most of Mente works without an account. Testovanie 9, for example, can be taken as a guest - no record is created, no XP is awarded and nothing is saved. Your answers are processed only so the server can return your grade.

What we process when you create an account

You only need an account if you want to save progress, earn XP and appear on the leaderboard. In that case we process:

  • Email sign-up: your email, an optional name, and a password. We never store your password in readable form - only a secure hash (bcrypt) is kept.
  • Google sign-in: the name, email address, profile photo and Google account id that Google provides. Your profile photo appears on the public leaderboard only if you turn it on (initials are shown by default).
  • An optional nickname you set for the leaderboard.
  • Your learning progress: completed videos, PDFs, visualizations and quizzes, XP, streaks, study time, daily goals, test / practice-exam / review results, challenge progress and unlocked leagues.
  • Security logs: for important actions the server records the time, the event type and - to protect against abuse - your IP address and browser user agent.

The interactive board and recognition

If you use the interactive board with handwriting recognition, the content you write or draw is sent for processing to a recognition service and to a language model (Anthropic Claude) so they can return a transcript or LaTeX. Only what you enter into that feature is sent. If you do not use it, nothing is sent.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with the providers that are necessary to run the platform and that process it on our behalf:

  • Google - when you choose to sign in with Google (identity verification).
  • Vercel - hosting and content delivery.
  • Neon - the hosted PostgreSQL database where accounts and progress are stored.
  • Anthropic (Claude) and a handwriting/math recognition service - only if you use the interactive board, and only for the content you enter into it.

Cookies and local storage

We use strictly necessary cookies only - no advertising or analytics. Specifically:

  • Authentication cookies (NextAuth) - keep you signed in and protect against CSRF. Sign-in does not work without them.
  • Browser local storage (localStorage) - remembers that you acknowledged this notice and temporarily caches your progress in the browser so it can be synced. This data stays on your device.

How long we keep data

We keep account and progress data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed (see below). Security logs are kept only for the limited time needed to protect against abuse. The exact retention period is set by the operator.

Your rights and deleting your data

You have the right to ask for access to your data, to correct it, to delete it and to object to its processing.

If you are signed in, you can delete your account and all associated personal data yourself under Profile → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

You can also request access or deletion by emailing dybalasamuel8@gmail.com.

Children and younger students

Mente is built for preparing for Testovanie 9 and the maturita exam, so younger students may use it. That is why we collect as little as possible: we do not ask for a date of birth, and your profile photo is hidden on the leaderboard by default.

If you are younger than the age at which you can consent to data processing on your own in your country, please use Mente with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date above. For larger changes we will try to make it clear in the app as well.
